Traditional Chinese Medicine: Pain
In Traditional Chinese Medicine point of view, pain is caused by obstructions of free flow of qi (energy) and blood. This means that pain is a manifestation of lack of free flow of qi and blood. Hence, most of pain can be explained with this concept.
This disturbance of qi and blood circulation can cause malnourishment of muscles, tendons and joints. Also, the malnourishment delays recovery and regained strengthening process. Over the time, muscles and tendons become weak and increase risk of injuries.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the internal and external issues are also considered at the same time for treatment. (external factor such as, injuries, coldness, dampness etc. and internal factor such as weakness of sudden organ and it’s functions).During the consultation, a practitioner may ask about diet, sweat, urination, stress and sleeping etc. and check pulse, complexion and tongue. All these signs and symptoms can be used for diagnosing the condition of a patient.According to the patient’s signs and symptoms, a practitioner can determine a treatment principle. It can be just localised issue such as traumatic injuries but treatment always deals with the local issue as well as the organ functional issue.
Acupuncture is the most common treatment method for pain management, but Herbal medications are also used in conjunction with acupuncture treatment.
